BUCK MOUNTAIN EAST FACE 2/3/11

Climbed and skied the East Face of Buck last week with Phil.  Conditions were pretty variable with windpack, breakable crust and a little windblown powder to deal with. I had climbed the East Ridge a few winters ago, and that is worth the price of admission. Great exposure on the north side of Buck into Avalanche Canyon. This day we opted against the East Ridge because of 40mph winds. We were practically getting blown off the East Face let alone an exposed class 4 ridge. Always a great day to climb and ski from the summit of a Teton Peak.

TETON PASS 1/19/11

Some great pow skiing today, some of the best of the year. Deep and light.

PEAK 10,696 GTNP 1/11/11

We haven’t seen the sun much this winter. It is nice to take advantage when it does poke out. 10, 696 is a nice little mountain located at the culmination of Snow Devil Ridge from the top of 25 short. It affords great views into Avalanche Canyon and a real close up view of Buck Mt. from the summit. I had never been up there before, and Phil and I gave it a go from Taggart Lake.

GRAND TETON N.P BLOWER POW

They reported 9 inches of 4% water content. It skied like 16 inches of dust on top of a pool table smooth groomer. So fast, so light, so dry. This vid is from yesterday in GTNP, and I returned there today for another 3500 vert run of untracked pow, a little more consolidated though.

TETON PASS 12/29

Another round of snowfall the other night graced us with some great powder skiing. The wind from last night ruined it for today.

TAYLOR LOWER EAST FACE 12/28 POV

Went up Taylor today hoping to ski the east face. We arrived on the east face short of the summit due to lack of visibility and skied from around 10, ooo ft or so. There is a bad crust on south and west facing, but east and north facing has 10 inches of windblown snow on it. It skied pretty good up high, then became crusty down low. Much more snow on the way, Ianticipate some great POV’s to come.

GRAND TETON PARK BACKCOUNTRY 12/21

After a heavy storm cycle that dropped nearly 2 feet with some high winds, we went into Grand Teton National Park to find some untouched pow. We decided on 25 short because of it’s nicely spaced glades, and consistant pitch of 3000 vertical feet. The snow had settled a bit, and we were lucky to find a skin track from the day before. Thanks to whoever put that thing in, it would have taken us twice as long.

TETON PASS 12/19 POV

Skiing here in the Tetons has been amazing so far. Nearly 200 inches of snow, and some phenomenal powder skiing. I just purchased a Go Pro Helmet cam with a head mount and chest mount. I tried the chest mount today for the first time. They reported 4 inches new, you be the judge…
